Mark Hamester
Major Mark Hamester, US Marine Corps (retired), 57, passed away January 7, 2020 after a 20 month battle with anaplastic astrocytoma. Mark's call sign in the Marine Corps was Wombat, and our 2019 BrainUp team was proud to be Wombat's Warrior. Like a wombat, Mark was brave and tenacious in his fight against this horrible disease. Like a wombat, he was loyal and protective of his family and friends.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Mark co-founded the Chicago School of Woodworking, sharing his passion with students who often became friends. We remember him for his unending kindness, infectious grin, love of Canadian cottage life, his strong faith in God, insatiable sweet tooth, and his deep affection for his dogs. Mark was/is the love of my life, my forever husband.
