Biographical Info
M. Kelly Nicholas, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of
Chicago. He is clinically trained in neurology and neuro-oncology and holds a doctorate
in immunology. He chose to focus on brain tumors because of the challenges presented
both by clinical care of the patient and the need for a better understanding of brain
tumor biology. Hr. Nicholas has worked to bring new treatments to brain tumor patients
through clinical trials and collaborated with laboratory scientists to better understand the
causes of brain cancer. He is a dedicated educator; the recipient of numerous teaching
awards. Dr. Nicholas has a longstanding interest in medical ethics and is currently the
Vice-Chair of the Institutional Review Board at the University of Chicago. He is honored
to serve as Chairman of the BrainUp Medical Advisory Board.

Research Interests:
Dr. Nicholas is interested in understanding the complex biology that underlies brain tumor development. He collaborates with basic scientists on a variety of projects. His principal research contribution lies in examining the effects of new treatments on people with brain tumors.
